ARTLIA's art prints are produced according to standardized paper and canvas formats.

Depending on the aspect ratio of the original artwork and the chosen format, it may happen that the edges of the image are slightly adjusted to achieve a harmonious overall effect and high print quality.

For canvas prints, the ARTLIA team ensures that the main motif is placed as fully as possible on the front side. The side frame areas are continued in color and style to match the original image.

This is a deliberate and common production step with which the ARTLIA team ensures the aesthetic quality of each artwork.

Flowers and Birds (Hwajodo)

Korean Minhwa interpretation by Seungmin Yoon

This work by Seungmin Yoon draws on the traditional Korean motif of Hwajodo—a poetic depiction of flowers and birds that has symbolized harmony, good fortune, and a fulfilling life for centuries.

In Korean folk painting (Minhwa), nature and symbolism come together in a particularly direct way. Colors, shapes, and composition create a vivid, intuitive effect, far removed from the strict rules of courtly art traditions. The result is a visual language that conveys warmth, lightness, and a gentle, positive radiance.

Symbolism of Hwajodo

Depending on the plant and bird species depicted, different meanings emerge. Commonly, they represent:

– Blossoming flowers, representing prosperity, growth, and joie de vivre
– Birds—often depicted as a pair—representing love, harmony, and human connection
– Natural elements such as rocks or branches, representing stability and balance

This combination makes Hwajodo a classic symbol of good fortune that traditionally adorns living spaces and creates an optimistic atmosphere.

About the Artist

In her artistic practice, Seungmin Yoon combines classic pictorial motifs with a clear, contemporary visual language. The symbolic expressive power of the Minhwa tradition is preserved, but translated into a reduced, modern visual aesthetic.

Format & Finish

The original has a narrow, vertical format. For selected poster sizes, the composition has been carefully adjusted.

Standard Poster: slightly cropped for a balanced format
Full Image Option: full image available without cropping
Canvas Prints (1:2 / 1:3): always in the complete original format

If you choose the full version, you also have the option of having the artwork individually cropped or traditionally mounted.

Minhwa – Korean Folk Painting

Minhwa emerged primarily during the late Joseon period (18th–19th century) as a form of everyday painting. Unlike the strictly regulated art of the royal court, it was characterized by greater freedom, playful elements, and strong symbolic significance. Many works were created as talismans of good fortune, with the hope of bringing positive energy into everyday life.

To this day, Minhwa has retained this distinctive quality: an immediate, human aesthetic that does not dominate spaces but subtly enriches them.
